"Awareness" . Maxine Fekete . Acrylic . 2014

These two piece go together as part of the story of my emotional, mental, and spiritual journey. The watercolour selfportrait portrays a time in my life a couple years ago where I was depressed, catatonic at times, and dragging. I learned that in dreams, foxes symbolize being aware, insight, and a need to be wary of someone or something deceiving you. I went through a period of time where I had a self - awakening and was learning that I needed to become self-aware and to be wary of those around me. So I went from looking down and having my eyes closed (the self-portrait) to finally opening my eyes and becoming aware (the fox).

"Stitches" . Maxine Fekete . 2013 . Acrylic, embroidery, sticks, & hot glue.
The bird and the tree are hand-stitched  into the canvas. The border is made up of sticks glued onto the canvas. This piece symbolizes a time in my life where I was growing and learning how to deal with my anxiety. I found that repetitive movements and motions, such as stitching, helped calm and centre me.

I haven’t been on here as much as I should but I just noticed that my painting “Space in a Bottle” has over 350 notes on it. Might not be much to some, but it means so much to me. It’s a great feeling knowing that many people like a piece of mine! :D
